                                  Exclusive Interview
       MARTIN KEMP
Back To The 80S Dj Set
 IS THIS TOO
GOOD TO
BE ‘TRUE’?
The hottest 80s club night is coming to
town - when actor, TV personality and star of Spandau Ballet Martin Kemp will be spinning the biggest and best hits of that decade!
Currently selling-out venues across the UK, Martin’s sold out appearances at Uppermill Civic Hall on Saturday 14th September and Saturday 5th October promises to be a couple pure ‘Gold’ nights!
After making his name in Spandau Ballet where he played bass with his older brother, Gary Kemp, who was the guitarist, synthesizer player and songwriter and other bandmates Tony Hadley, John Keeble and Steve Norman, Martin also found fame as an actor making fifilms such as The Krays and starred as Steve Owen in EastEnders in the years that followed.
We caught up with Martin as he performs his two much anticipated DJ sets in the heart of Saddleworth.........
Hi Martin, we know you have a hectic schedule so many thanks for answering these questions for us for our forthcoming edition.
You’re currently touring the country with your 80’s DJ sets, how did this project come about? And how does it feel touring solo as opposed to with a band?
“We started a year ago as a one off but it just exploded, and from experiencing the sense of euphoria in the room I wanted to carry on. I’ve done so much without my band it feels weird when they are with me!”
Who was the fifirst person you ever saw in concert, and the fifirst album you bought?
“First live concert was Deke Leonard’s MAN, and the fifirst album I bought was ‘Me & My Life’ by The Tremeloes.”
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Saddleworth for your two sold-out shows. Have you been to Saddleworth before, and if so have you any memories to share (good or bad!)
“First time to Saddleworth, but I want everyone singing along to every word!”
Do you have any more TV work in the pipeline? Could you ever be tempted by a role in Coronation Street - or was Eastenders the only soap for you?
“I’m in the middle of working towards something that will be revealed soon, but can’t say just yet. Going back to a soap?
“Who knows which way life is gonna take me!”
You had a very successful movie - The Krays - starring alongside your brother Gary; have the two of you any more plans to work together, either in fifilm/TV or musically?
“I hope I can work with Gary again, he’s the best.”
What would you say is the secret to a long and successful career? And what have you learned from your experiences in the industry?
“The secret to a long career I think is to always treat it as a hobby!”
If you weren’t a successful actor/ musician, what might you be doing?
“I might be a footballer ... (yeah right!)”
Finally, can you give your crowd a teaser for your Saddleworth gigs, with 3 tracks you’re going to play to get them all dancing?
“Mmm three tracks I’m gonna play? I love .... nah, come to the gig and sing along, you will know every single tune! And no one is allowed to wake up the next day without a sore throat!!! “
Many thanks for your time again Martin and good luck with the tour!
