Stalybridge Celtic PAN-disability teams finish season on a high
Stalybridge Celtic’s three adult PAN-disability teams have now finished for the 2018/19 season, with two of the teams finishing on a high note.
After competing in the Cheshire East Ability Counts League for seven months, the club took two teams to the Cheshire FA HQ in Northwich on Saturday 20th July to play in the Ability Counts Cup, which brings together teams from the East and West Leagues.
Stalybridge Celtic Blues and Stalybridge Celtic AFG (Alternative Futures Group) were both placed in the ‘Plate’ competition, with teams representing Stockport County FC, Chester FC, Tranmere Rovers FC, Ellesmere Port and Chris Hill Community Sports (Buxton), so six games each on the day.
The Blues came fifth out of the seven, so well done to Chris, Lee, Wayne, Adam, Stephen, Sean, Michael, Daniel and Danny, a great effort, with Stalybridge Celtic AFG finishing first and facing Ellesmere Port in the semi-final, where they won on penalties to book a place in the Final against Stockport County, who had won the plate for the previous three years.
Again, a penalty shoot out decided the match, with AFG winners on the day to cap a superb day for those who represented AFG in the tournament, a big well done to Brad, Nathan, Jamie, Lee, Michael, Nick, Jay and James, along with Coaches, Sean and James.
Once the Cup Competition had ended, the teams attended the League Presentation, where the Blues were crowned champions of the East League Division One…..well done to everyone who played for the Blues down at Power League in Stockport every month.
Celtic are holding an Open Day at Bower Fold for our three teams, which now have forty players in the squad in total, on Saturday 3rd August 2019 v Marine AFC at Bower Fold, where they will be presenting the Cups/Plate and Medals to everyone who couldn’t make it to the Cup competition.
Weekly Training Sessions start again for the 2019/20 season on Thursday 5th September 2019 at Ashton 6th Form College.
