Saddleworth Wine Vault Easter Wine Review

The Saddleworth Wine Vault’s very own Tim Naylor serves up Eclectic Easter Egg-cellence reviews on some tasty tipples to try this Easter.

Don’t worry, there’ll be no more ‘egg’ puns…Honest. My brain is scrambled enough as it is, without worrying about poaching hard-boiled jokes from elsewhere.

Yes, it’s that time of year again.  Easter – the symbolic time of re-birth.  Lambs gambolling in the fields leaves unfurling on the trees, and Britain’s Got Talent on the telly.

There are also some cracking bottles available for you to enjoy, including…

Domaine la Soumade, Rasteau  France 2015

A little beauty of a ‘sleeper’ from the Rhone valley, this little known red wine is finally making some much-deserved waves.  A typical Rhone blend of Grenache (80%), Syrah (10%) and Mourvedre (10%). Intense and herbaceous on the nose –  blackcurrant and blackberry aromas abound backed up with hints of spice and vanilla.  The wine develops to medium/full-bodied on the palate, and dances on the tongue with wonderful spicy, fruity and herbal notes.  Class in a glass.

Great with lamb, or casseroles.

Nora, Albarino  Spain

Outstanding Albarino from Vina Nora’s stunning estate in Rias Baixas, Galicia in  North West Spain.  The wine spends four months on its lees (unoaked) to give depth and structure.  Wonderful aromas of stone fruits, orange blossom and white flowers on the nose followed by citrus stone fruits and pear on the palate.  All undercut with a lovely minerality that keeps you coming back for more.  Refreshing, bright and with a long finish.

Delicious. Only

Thierry Fournier Rose Champagne (Non-Vintage)  France

Our very own ‘house’ Champagne.  A classic blend of 80% Pinot Meunier, 10% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, made by blending a portion of red and white wines together (Champagne is one of the few, very rare places where this practice is allowed).  A lovely fresh silky mousse, with lots of fresh strawberry aromas wafting up on the bursting bubbles.  The dry, strawberry theme continues on the palate, with that mousse adding the cream.  A lovely fresh, clean zingy finish completes the picture.

Why pay more for your fizz?

£23.95

See you next time!
