Lifestyle DELPH YOUTH AND TRAINING BAND Rarely do you come across a small village community supported by a thriving youth brass band. Although more evident in Saddleworth, even here where brass banding is in the blood, youth bands are not common place. This is why Delph is on top of its game.Alongside the proud heritage of the more senior Delph Band, the Delph Youth Band provides not only a vital training base but also an important focus for the community and the young people of the area. The Youth Band was originally set up in 1974 and is currently directed by Matt Stimpson and DanWilson. As qualifified teachers, the players benefifit from their expertise and enthusiasm, as well as their patience and humour! Delph now boasts a Youth and Training Band, as well as a beginners section called the Tooters. Many young people join the band from the village and local area but have also come from as far afifield as Halifax. The attraction is the supportive family ethos and all players are supported to develop their skill and confifidence. However, don’t be fooled! Although many start with very little or no experience, these players are really good. Throughout the year, the bands play at events in the village and local area such as the Christmas Lights switch on, Remembrance Sunday, and of courseWhit Friday. All who support the bands are proud that the children are engaging their hearts and minds into such a worthwhile and traditional activity. Previous members of the bands have gone onto play for Black Dyke, Brighouse and Rastrick, Fodens to name but a few with many continuing their study at University. So what are you waiting for? Delph Band welcome both experienced players and beginners. They also have instruments you can try, so call down and meet this musically friendly bunch every Saturday morning.
