Food and Drink NEW DAWN RISES FOR MANNS WHARF CATERING KEEPING it in the family is proving to be the recipe for success for one popular Mossley-based catering company. Manns Wharf was launched by John Stevenson 21 years ago to bring high quality food and personalised catering services to locals to suit all needs and occasions. John grew the business with his wife Jeannette from its small beginnings at pop-up restaurants to one of the busiest in Oldham and Tameside, catering for everyone from small parties to grand events hosted by the Mayor of Oldham. Now as he hangs up his utensils for the last time, he is delighted to be handing over the keys to his cooking kingdom to his daughter Helen and her partner Kristi Fuller. John said:“I am really pleased that Helen and Kristi are taking over. I was over the moon when they told me what they had decided. “Helen was a partner in the business for about nine years so she knows our ethos and what’s important to the company. “But she’s also learned a lot doing her own thing for the last three years, by successfully running The Foxhole in Meltham with Kristi.” However, with a heavy heart, Helen and Kristi realised they couldn’t run both businesses to their maximum potential due to the work load, so decided to sadly close The Fox Hole to solely concentrate on Manns Wharf. Helen said “Dad had been trying to sell MannsWharf for a while but hadn’t had the right offer. I thought we could do it so decided John Stevenson handing over Manns Wharf to daughter Helen (left) and her partner Kristi after a successful 21 years. to give it a go.We tried to run both for a month or so but we knew it was just too much when we were getting up at 3am to bake pies!” The pair will be adding their own dishes and twists to the existing menus, but will continue using fresh ingredients to create high quality food with friendly, professional service. They can cater for all kinds of events from birthday parties to funeral teas, BBQs to festivals, and they have a mouth-watering menu in store for those planning a Christmas occasion. The kind-hearted couple will also be serving up a special treat on Christmas Day when they will be cooking turkey with all the trimmings free of charge for the local elderly, homeless or those who can’t afford it themselves. They are looking for donations – including food, warm clothes and presents – to help put on the event at Meltham church hall.
