Saturday review by Tom Rogers
‘You’ve got yourself a love- ly part of the world here
- and that’s coming from a Yorkshireman!’
- Joe Carnall (Good Cop Bad Cop)
It’s one of those festivals where that term doesn’t apply. A mixed bag, Cotton clouds delivered on all bases this year, offffering every genre, and pleasing the masses.

For me, it all started at half 12 in the Spinning Rooms tent. The Flatlines were kicking the day off, with a modest crowd but played with passion. In front of me, I saw a band with potential - something that I’ll be seeing selling out Jimmy’s or Deaf Institute in a few years. It was the ideal start to what was a confusing mish-mash of enjoyable experiences that I’d think upon fondly for years to come.
Sam McGurk started us off on the main stage, sharing his Jake Buggy vibes, followed by a band in Tim Peaks Diner that I had heard people talking about the night before - Dirty Laces.A strong early-afternoon crowd, an entertaining, engaging frontman and electric chemistry between the band made for
a thoroughly enjoyable set.
Colby Fletcher came onto the main stage with some gusto, Singer Jake had recently returned from a tour playing with The Specials and has now settled in a house in nearby Mossley. A homecoming gig on a fifitting stage.
There has to be a time at every festival when people think it’s okay to unwind and enjoy yourself - Patawawa made that happen. The two lead singers got everyone up on their feet, as they danced around the stage, using every single inch to their advantage, and turning heads of the more conservative festival-goers out there. A strong turnout for the Matlock band.
