RISHWORTH SCHOOL
The Courage to be Courageous
As children nervously start new schools this September, they step outside their comfort zones.
It may be scary, but they just need to take small
steps – to spot the other child who is desperately in need of a friend; not to be afraid to ask the obvious burning question – because most other children will be relieved they did it fifirst; be the fifirst to offffer to help someone else when they are struggling. All these steadily build confifidence and inner courage and is as important a lesson as anything else they will learn in school.
perseverance, commitment, humility and respect for others.
Without courage, however, nothing is possible.
When students work to develop their inner courage, they both empower themselves with the ability to confront problems head on, as well as acquire the skills required to deal with life’s inevitable challenges.
It is important for children to do the things they typically shy away from. Building courage in this way can help them when it’s time to have to confront a very big problem, make a tough decision or step in to a life changing situation.
As term begins, I will be watching for those little signs of courage in the students starting new classes and new challenges this year, and I will wish them all the best of luck. I will remind them that starting new things is scary, but when faced head on can be exciting.
To those returning to school, I will encourage them to lead by example and challenge them to be brave enough to try harder, aim higher and achieve their ambitions.
As adults, we must continually shake ourselves up and exercise small scale acts that might mature into something impressive, leading by example with the courage to be courageous!
Contrary to common belief, courage is not something anyone is born with. Rather, it is something that can be cultivated and honed.
Acquiring courage does not necessarily mean doing something dramatic or astoundingly heroic. Every day, many ordinary folk summon uncommon courage to overcome both physical and psychological barriers in order to achieve a variety of necessities and goals.
Courage is the mental and emotional
preparedness and ability to deal with diffificult, challenging, and sometimes seemingly impossible circumstances. It is the ability to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, intimidation and other threats.
Rishworth School encourages students to embrace a life-long love of learning, curiosity and discovery; a sense of responsibility, purpose and ambition; a capacity for both self-reliance and co-operation; and values, such as honesty, dependability,
