       FUNKY FITNESS & FUN
Bringing you some much needed end of summer sunshine
Hello again from all of us here at Funky Fitness and Fun. How did you enjoy our very wet summer? We had a great time swinging in the rain at the Yanks Festival having been invited to present our nostalgic 1940s music show. Managing to dodge the heaviest showers we brought our own brand of sunshine to the afternoon. It really was a delight to be involved in this spectacular event.
Our grow/cook/eat/entertain project is going so well. Residents at Holland Close, Chew Vale,Wood Square and Lido House have enjoyed delicious soups and breads made fresh before being delivering hot to the venues. Later in the afternoon we have a fun interactive workshop where we teach/ learn the benefifits of the ingredients. Could you list 10 benefifits of Leeks, Carrots or Tomatoes? Our members and guests can!
Martial Arts classes are going really will with the students preparing for their Orange awards. They are learning so much and we are very grateful to Sensei Richard and Sensei Dave for all their hard work.
As you know our focus is always on
learning in a fun environment. Our art teacher Jacquie has been working with several members to make clocks. A great fun art class, add a bit of construction work and we have a fully working clock. Members and staff will now work together to raise the skills of members who may not yet be fully able to tell the time. We won’t be late for anything ever again!
Many of our members interact on a daily basis with healthcare professionals, carers or PAs; they tell us that sometimes communication can be diffificult. Through the medium of drama and role-play we are developing workshops which we hope to offer to interested groups. Safeguarding through the eyes of our members will be discussed; also what they need/ want from carers/PAs, trying to eliminate the mis-match between what the client/carer feel is needed. We already have a group who have expressed an interest in working with us. This is exciting and a really important way for our members to be empowered.
Caring for the environment around is so important, isn’t it? Here at Funky Fitness and Fun we want to make a
difference. Our walking group has decided to incorporate litter picking, such a simple idea supporting our environment. We are creating a dance to accompany a beautiful song written especially for us, which will challenge all of us to think about our environment and cherish it.
Do you work with a community group who might want to work with us? Don’t be shy: check out our website and send us an e-mail www. funkyfifitnessandfun.co.uk. We also have our own You Tube channel, lots of fun and informative videos. FromYou Tube search Funky Fitness and Fun. Please like and subscribe!
Seeee you next time!

OSFC is celebrating its best ever A Level pass rate, at 99%, well above the national average. In addition, a higher number of subjects have a perfect 100% pass rate. The college continues to build on its superb record for A Level studies, with 381 students achieving at least AAA or equivalent.
The college is proud to offer the widest choice of A Levels in the area and a 4 AS Level programme in Year 12, giving students a full external exam experience in their fifirst year, a greater number of qualififications than offered by most sixth form providers and flflexibility about subject choices on progression through to Year 13. Our AS Level pass rate is also the best ever this year.
As has been the case for many years now, there was a superb 100% pass rate by students completing vocational/Applied General courses.A phenomenal 96.5% of students taking the Extended Diploma achieved the highest grades, with over 1000 Distinction and Distinction* grades, which are the equivalent of A/A* grades at A Level. A substantial number
of students complete ‘blended’ programmes, combining A Level and applied courses and have achieved excellent results in these too. OSFC is also the only college in Greater Manchester to have been selected to offer the new, flflagship T-Levels from September 2020.
OSFC students have secured places at Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities and there are many other superb outcomes in terms of both progression to a wide range of universities and to other excellent options including apprenticeships, gap years,Art Foundation courses and directly into employment.
Jayne Clarke, Executive Principal, said “We are once again delighted and very proud of our students’ results. Students at OSFC have the broadest of choices, make outstanding progress and achieve superb results year on year.To have achieved our strongest pass rates in the context of the new tougher A Levels is testament to the hard work and dedication of both the students and our staff, who have supported students wonderfully well. We wish all our students the very best of luck on the next steps in their futures, whether this be at university, on an apprenticeship or in employment.”
