REMEMBRANCE PARADES AND SERVICES AT WAR MEMORIALS

 

Armistice Celebration
Friday 2 November, 7.30pm
Chadderton Together, in collaboration with Chadderton Historical Society, presents an evening of entertainment at Chadderton Town Hall. There will be food, entertainment and a raffle. A bar will also be available.
Tickets are £20 and include supper.
All proceeds will go to the Chadderton Heritage Fund.

Catch this special touring version of the British Muslim Heritage Centre’s award-winning exhibition dedicated to the bravery and sacrifice of Muslim soldiers who fought for Britain in the First World War at Gallery Oldham.

Festival of Remembrance

Church’s silhouette homage: to the brave soldiers who never came home
Saturday 10 November, 10am–4pm
Ten life-size silhouettes will offer a poignant reminder of those lost in the First World War. Red and white poppies will also be on display.

Oldham
A procession will assemble at New Radcliffe Street at 10.20am and proceed to the War Memorial at 10.30am. The service will commence at 10.50am.

Chadderton
A procession will assemble at the Chadderton Reform Club, Middleton Road, Chadderton at 10am and proceed to the War Memorial at 10.30am. The service will take place at 10.55am.

A Nation’s Tribute
Sunday 11 November, 7pm
A special service to commemorate the soldiers lost during World War One. There will be a Beacon Lighting Ceremony followed by a service with The Royal British Legion and other dignitaries.

World War One 100 Pop up Exhibition
Until Monday 12 November, 9am–5pm
Explore Oldham Archives’ new display, ‘Oldham during the First World War’, find out more about Oldham soldiers, fill in the Book of Remembrance and pin photos of your ancestors to the photo board. The Royal British Legion will also be selling poppies to raise money.

FROM November 10 to 11, the communities making up Tameside will be holding services and ceremonies to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Cllr Denise Ward, the Civic Mayor of Tameside, said: “This year’s remembrance ceremonies are more important than ever as we will be marking the exact day the armistice took effect to end the First World War.

“I urge residents to attend the special ceremonies across our borough and to pay their respects to our brave servicemen and women past and present.”

Central

Parade assembles on Market Street (side of the market hall) at 9am and marches to Ashton Parish Church. After service parade proceeds to Ashton War Memorial for wreath laying at 10.45am.

Cockbrook

Service in St Gabriel’s Church, Stamford Street, at 10.55am followed by wreath-laying at adjacent war memorial at 12.30pm.

Hurst

Service in St John’s Church, Kings Road, at 9.30am. Then procession heads to Hurst Cemetery for wreath-laying at the war memorial at 11am.

Park Bridge

Service at the war memorial in the grounds of Park Bridge Institute at 10.45am.

Waterloo

Parade assembles at Canon Burrows School, Oldham Road, at 2pm and heads to near-by war memorial for service at 2.30pm.

AUDENSHAW

Service and wreath-laying in Audenshaw Cemetery at 3pm.

DENTON

Central

Parade assembles at Denton Working Men’s Club, Grosvenor Street, at 10am and heads to Victoria Street remembrance garden to lay wreath. Then goes via Denton Town Hall to war memorial in Victoria Park for service of remembrance at 10.45am.

Denton West

Wreath-laying in Thornley Park at 1.30pm.

Haughton Green

Service in St Mary’s Church at 10.30am followed by wreath-laying.

DROYLSDEN

Parade assembles on Church Street at 10am and heads to Droylsden War Memorial for service and wreath-laying at 10.45am.

DUKINFIELD

Parade leaves Dukinfield Town Hall at 2.45pm for service and wreath-laying at Chapel Hill memorial at 3pm.

HYDE

Central

Parade leaves Greenfield Street at 2.10pm and heads to Hyde Central Methodist Church, Norfolk Street, for service at 2.30pm. Then on to Hyde Town Hall for wreath-laying at 3.30pm.

Newton

Parade leaves Rosemount Trinity Methodist Church at 10am and heads up Bennett Street to George and Dragon for wreath-laying at 10.15am.

Werneth

Parade leaves Lower Higham Visitor Centre, Higham Lane, at 11.45am for service and wreath-laying at Werneth Low war memorial at noon. Vehicular access will be available.

LONGDENDALE

Broadbottom

Parade leaves Broadbottom Community Centre, Lower Market Street, at 10.30am. Act of remembrance at war memorial at 10.45am.

Hollingworth

Service in Hollingworth Methodist Church, Water Lane, at 10am followed by wreath-laying at Mottram Moor war memorial at 10.50am.

Service in Mottram Church at 10.30am.

MOSSLEY

Service and wreath-laying at 10.45am at war memorial, Mossley Park.

STALYBRIDGE

Parade leaves Armentieres Square at 10.35am and heads to Trinity Street war memorial for service and wreath-laying at 10.55am.
