Whit Friday in Tameside Review Despite the occasionally inclement weather 55 bands were on the circuit in Tameside performing with all the gusto we have all come to love and cherish. The Whit Friday contests really are both a sight and sound that you have to experience to understand. No second hand description ever does it justice. Once again Foden’s reigned supreme at the Tameside Overall Contest with a convincing win.The Open 2nd prize went to Rothwell Temperance and Elland Silver band placed 3rd overall. Local favourites Ashton Brass Band secured the 1st place local prize and The Brian Hill Memorial Award. Mossley took 2nd and Stalybridge Old Band a well- deserved 3rd.This was a carbon copy of last year’s local positions. The 1st and 2nd youth prizes went onceagaintoMacclesfifieldYouthandMossleyHollins School Bands respectively.Although all 4 youth bands on the circuit did remarkably well showing that the future for banding is bright indeed.
