News Update By Tricia Leigh
International bestselling author inspired by local
libraries
When Saddleworth author,
Phaedra Patrick, visited Oldham Library as a young girl, she dreamed that one day her own books would sit on the shelves. And now, decades later, she’s a USA Today bestseller whose novels are published in over twenty languages worldwide.
Phaedra’s third novel, The Library ofLost and Found, will be published by HQ/ Harper Collins on 27 June (paperback, ebook and audio book).Taking inspiration from Phaedra’s love of libraries, it tells of volunteer librarian, Martha Storm, who takes delivery of a mysterious book of fairy tales.Within its pages lies a surprising dedication that stirs up family secrets and sparks her own emotional journey of discovery.
The book is for adults and is suitable for YA readers too. It has already been a hit in the USA where People magazine called it, “Sweet and resonant.” UK review website, Lovereading, said,“What an absolutely gorgeous book this is.”
Phaedra became a full-time writer four years ago when she took redundancy from her job in communications at the Co-op. She works from a small shed in her garden that overlooks the beautiful Saddleworth hills.
She says,‘Readers often compare my books to the late, great Maeve Binchy, which is a huge compliment. I love to write heart-warming stories about everyday people, and to make readers laugh and cry. I set all my stories in the North of England, so it’s wonderful how American readers have embraced them. I’d love for local people to do the same. www.phaedra-patrick.com
workshops are planned for future Meet Ups.
Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month in the Royal George upstairs function room, The Wimberry Suite. This can be accessed from the pub with further disabled access from the car park. New members and guests are very welcome. Guests can attend two ‘taster’ meetings before joining the W.I. The annual subscription, which is on a sliding annual scale, is £21 from July to December. We require a donation of £1.00 per member and £3.00 for non- members per meeting towards running costs and refreshments. Our meeting will start at 8.15 pm. However, we would be grateful if members and visitors could please arrive from 7.15 pm onwards to register in the downstairs bar.
At each of our monthly meetings we will providecollection baskets which will change periodically. The July baskets are ‘MASH’, in support of our June speaker and continuing with the’ Red Box project’. At our June meeting, our guest speaker was Janelle,

They can be themselves without being judged whilst also receiving therapeutic services and life skills support. This was very thought provoking talk, listening to some harrowing but also some uplifting life stories of the women MASH meet on a daily basis.
Our speaker on the 17th July will be Joan Harthan.A retired University lecturer with a PHD in Chemistry, Jo is also an author, a dream worker and a shamanic practitioner. With thirteen published books to date, Jo is busy completing four new titles.
