SADDLEWORTH COMES OUT IN FORCE TO SUPPORT MACMILLAN Saddleworth turned green as the world’s biggest coffffee mornings were hosted across the community in aid of Macmillan cancer. Once again the kind hearted folk of our local communities both hosted and supported various MacMillan Coffee Mornings at different venues at the start of October. These included an annual get together which was started way back in 2005 at Wrigley Mill in Diggle. Organised by Paula Hardy and Linda Heywood, as well as Paula’s Mum Margaret Hardy and sister Karen Schofifield, their event rely totally on volunteers who help the coffee morning run smoothly each year. After a great turn out this year, they managed to raise an amazing £1,370 which over the years has meant that the group has totalled their fundraising to £18,934 which is a fantastic effort. Another well supported coffee morning event took place at Jo Ferns Salon in Lydgate. Organised by Rachael Whitehead, the salon was full of cakes all baked by the staff. There was a rafflfle with prizes donated by the like of Face & Body of Grotton, as well as a hamper put together by all the girls who work at the salon to make it a successful day for everyone involved. In total the day raised £500 which was equally split between Macmillan and Nicola Gerard and her fifiancéé Rick who are due to get married this December. Nicola is the beautician who works out of Jo Ferns and Rick is a local fifireman who was involved in tackling the recent moorland blazes. Sadly, Rick has been diagnosed with cancer. No doubt their wedding day will be a beautiful occasion. Well done to everyone involved in the Macmillan coffee morning. By Christian Wibbley In this article, I would like to give some background on my professional association. It is called the British Association of Clinical Dental Technology (BACDT). It is the leading professional association that looks to sustain and advance the ethical practice of Clinical Dental Technicians (Denturists). It was established in 2009, and it soon became the leading voice for CDTs in the UK. All members are checked to ensure they meet General Dental Council Regulations and the BACDT charter. BACDT members are passionate about the profession of Clinical Dental Technology as well as being keen to develop their skills and knowledge in order to constantly improve their service to patients. Full BACDT members have to be qualifified and registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) who are the regulatory body for the UK dental profession. All members regularly update their knowledge on regulatory issues and trends within dentistry. Earlier this year, my Denture practice (CW Dentures) became the proud recipient of the BACDT’s top award, Member of the Year 2018. This award is voted for by our very own patients, who gave feedback to the BACDT about their treatment experience. Having such positive and encouraging feedback from my patients further cements the reasons why I am proud to be associated with the British Association of Clinical Dental Technicians. If you have any questions about the BACDT or for any queries about Denture treatment, then please call CW Dentures on 01457 829241. Alternatively, email us admin@cwdentures. co.uk. In 2017, Chris was asked to speak at the International Dental Show in Cologne and at the largest UK Dental Technology Show in the UK on the subject of ‘Creating Natural Aesthetics in Denture Treatment’. He has gained a reputation for producing life-like and highly functional prostheses for his patients and he now works with a number of Dental Surgeons in providing Implant supported/retained dentures. Chris now has a keen interest in providing denture stabilisation treatment for those patients who are new to dentures or who have had long term problems with denture retention and comfort. Chris Wibberley qualifified at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2009 as a Dental Technician, where he developed a keen interest in creating natural looking and functional prostheses. In 2011, he was part of the fifirst cohort of Dental Technicians to be accepted at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) and graduated in December 2013 as one of the youngest Clinical DentalTechnicians in the UK. Chris’ passion for providing high quality denture treatment led him to providing a domiciliary service for care homes in Huddersfifield for an NHS practice based in Holmfifirth. He provided this service in conjunction with treating patients at a private dental practice based in Saddleworth, Oldham. www.AroundSADDLEWORTH.co.uk 31 Health and beauty
