Pearson Celebrates their Apprentices

Pearson celebrates their Apprentices in National Apprenticeship Week

It’s National Apprenticeship Week (3-7 February) so there’s no time like the present for Pearson Solicitors to celebrate their own apprentices.

On their staff they currently have seven apprentices on board; all at various stages of their apprenticeship programmes.

Introducing new talent

Apprentices are a great way for Pearson to employ staff and build a talent pipeline.  By introducing new talent into the firm it allows management to place staff in certain law areas and train them in the specific requirements.

Most of their apprentices are working towards a Level 3 Paralegal qualification and study at Oldham College, whilst others are working toward Business Administration qualification.

Spread across the business Pearson have apprentices working in Family, Private Client, Commercial Litigation, Commercial Property and Residential Conveyancing, one in Financial Services and a new recruit in the Medical Negligence team.

This programme allows their apprentices to apply a practical style of learning giving them the opportunity to learn and put it into practice immediately in the workplace.

Apprentices are a great asset

Joanne Ormston, Practice Manager for Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers says, “Apprentices are a great asset to our firm.  We often find that these employees join us straight from education and think of their job as a career. By investing in them in this way they often want to stay with us and further their qualifications.  They certainly experience a wide mix of learning in the workplace, gain formal training off-site and then have the opportunity to practice their new skills in a real work environment.”

Here’s what some of them had to say:-

Emily Gardner joined Pearson over three years ago, first studying for a Business Administration qualification, where she was recognised as an Outstanding Student on her course, before moving onto the Apprenticeship Paralegal programme.  Having always wanted to work in law Emily is placed in our Family Team, she has excelled in her exams gaining merits and distinctions and would like to further her skills by doing the Solicitor Apprenticeship and becoming a qualified Solicitor.

Jessica Morgan-Evans has been with Pearson just over 18 months working in the Residential Conveyancing Team and knew she always wanted to work in law.  “I really apply skills that I’ve learnt at college to my day to day role.”  Eventually, she would like to become a Solicitor too.

Emma Collinson joined the firm just over 12 months ago and is based in our Commercial Property Team.  Emma wanted to work and earn at the same time.  She enjoys the experience of working in a law firm and enjoys being able to apply want she learns at college straight away.  She too wants to carry on studying afterwards.

Chloe Andrew-Wills joined us last summer, straight after her A’ Levels and is based in our Commercial Litigation Team.  She says, “The best thing about the course is being able to learn at college and then apply it in practice at work.”  Being so new to the workplace she is really proud of the way she has adapted to working life alongside education and would like to progress to a Solicitor Apprenticeship afterwards.

Lucy Roughley was looking for an alternative to going to University and liked the idea of learning practically and earning at the same time.  She finds that the course content is very applicable to her day to day work in the Wills Trusts, Tax and Probate Team.  She has achieved good exam results so far on the Level 3 Paralegal course so would like to train to be a Legal Adviser and eventually become a Solicitor.

Zoe Whitehead joined The Financial Services Team at Pearson which helped her start a new career.  She has completed the Level 2 Business Administration course which enables her to feel more confident in her role, so much so she’d also like to carry on studying.

Pollyanna Molden has joined the firm very recently and will be starting on a Business Administration course soon.
