On 21st June Terry passed away at Dr Kershaw’s, his wife Julie was so moved by the care and compassion that the whole family received from the Hospice she decided to organise a fundraising evening in his memory.

Andrew Watson from The Three Crowns, a gastro pub that Julie and Terry frequented, came up with the idea of a tapas evening where they would donate a percentage of each meal to the Hospice.

He said: “Terry was a personal friend to myself and also a loyal customer of The Three Crowns. Sadly, Terry recently passed away and spent his final days in the care and comfort of Dr Kershaw’s who looked after Terry and his family.”

Terry, from Oldham, was well loved in the community and prizes for the raffle came flooding in including a designer handbag, champagne, vouchers and beauty treatments.

The night, held on Friday 6th September, saw 6 courses of tapas and traditional sangria as guests raised a glass in memory of Terry.

Julie said: “The Hospice did so much for Terry, he died with dignity and that gives me peace knowing that he was so well cared for.”

A treasured memory Julie had from Terry’s time at the Hospice was when she visited him in the chapel, the nurses had placed a red rose on his pillow, “it really touched my heart” she said.

Julie and Terry had been married for 17 years and had been together for 24 years. Terry’s good friend Dr Kevin Moore who was a trustee at Dr Kershaw’s, travelled to see Terry at the hospice which meant a lot to the family.

The Three Crowns are already planning their next event in aid of Dr Kershaw’s, a swing night with tapas on the 8th November 2019. Stay tuned on their Facebook page for more details: facebook.com/thethreecrownspubresturant
