Online Dating Success leads to Wedding Bells for Local Lass

Local lass Becky Wallis met Gareth Travis on an online dating site over 5 years ago. Now they are Mr and Mrs Travis!

They then bought a house the following year that they renovated themselves over the hill in Marsden. Living in just a single room surrounded by a building site, and even a tent during the summer. The couple certainly put their relationship to the test and survived!

Becky was born and bred in Dobcross. The whole family are involved with the village life and the wedding really reflected the team effort of the local community. The whole wedding was a local affair with a fab Hen party. Becky’s 35 friends enjoyed a day at a cookery school before dancing the night away at a local pub in Dobcross.

The Villagers lend a helping hand

All the village helped make the wedding a day to remember!  The wedding theme was a DIY wedding with Becky’s wedding dress a charity shop bargain at £120. The bike wheel arch over the church doors, made by Becky’s Dad and friend John Williamson, reflected the couples love for mountain biking and the great outdoors.

Family and friends from afar enjoyed a lovely meal at a local restaurant the night before the wedding. The following day, at Dobcross Church everyone enjoyed prosecco and wedding cake after the beautiful service, which provided all the village with a chance to be part of their special day whilst being entertained by Dobcross Silver Band.

Villagers helped the family to clear the Church Yard on the days before. Church members assisted with flower arranging and helped with the setup and clear up at the reception venue.

Kind-hearted locals even donated chair covers, etc to help decorate the venue, which had a woodland theme of Ivy and Balloon lanterns that transformed the venue.

The Wedding Day

The whole day ran like clockwork, so it was just like a BBC Live Event (where Becky works). Dobcross Silver Band and the church choir performed during the ceremony.

They were accompanied by Hilary Henderson (Becky’s Primary School music teacher) and her uncle Martyn, who played the Mozart clarinet concerto.

At the reception, 130 guests enjoyed a lovely three-course meal. They were later joined by the evening guests who enjoyed even more food prepared by Manns Wharf Caterers.  The guests then partied the night away with fancy dress and live band, The Driscolls.

The Bride even got up and sang ‘You’ve got a friend’ instead of a speech. This was as a thank you to all their friends who made the day possible.

Finally, a special mention must go to photographer Liz Baker, who captured the day perfectly.

It was a fabulous day of celebration and one that we will be remembered forever!

Congratulations Becky & Gareth
