Women In Business: Meet Jo Ferns One of Our Local Leading Ladies

In this first chapter of our Local Leading Ladies, we meet the lovely Jo Ferns.

Jo Ferns has grown a very successful hairdressing business during her 30 years as a hair stylist. During this time, she has also become a wife, mother and now a grandma, as well as a successful inventor!

The business owner and entrepreneur started her career working in TV for ten years, before opening her own salon in Ashton-Under-Lyne in 2002. After many years in her busy town centre-based salon, Jo went on to open two more salons, including the very popular ‘Jo Ferns’ in Lydgate. Jo Ferns is the home to several hair stylists, a make-up and nail artist and also neighbours Hair Shark UK Head Quarters.

Hair Shark was invented and developed by Jo and has introduced a new technology of hairbrushes including the world’s first patented two-sided Hairbrush. Hair Shark was founded in 2016 and is now sold by popular wholesalers across the world. Hair Shark was designed by Jo, who over 30 years of experience in hair styling, decided there was a gap in the market to target the challenge of successfully back combing and smoothing hair when creating various hair styles for different hair types.
