Planning your Perfect Honeymoon?

I’m getting married in the morning. Ding dong the bells are gonna chime!

As a little girl, I think most of us pulled a pillowcase over our hair, tottered round in mums high heals with a bunch of daffodils from the garden and played ‘We’re Getting Married’. I remember the rows about whose turn it was to be the groom!

I don’t ever remember playing where are we going on honeymoon! That’s definitely a more grown-up game, and for some, it can be time-consuming and stressful trying to find the right place at the right price. Also, getting a compromise can be difficult. The perfect honeymoon to the bride and groom can be miles apart.

A wedding day is something that is planned months/years in advance. It can be expensive, and the honeymoon is seen as the icing on the cake, the cherry on the icing on the cake.  You want it to be something that will create memories, that you’ll cherish forever. So, it’s important you start planning when you book the church or venue.  Don’t leave it as an afterthought.

Romantic Honeymoons and White Beaches

For some a honeymoon is a place in the sunshine, with white beaches and azure seas; romance personified.  If this is what you’re looking for then some of the best white beaches are in Tahiti, The Maldives and Hawaii. All synonymous with romance and honeymoons.  However, did you know that Tasmania, Cuba and The Philippines are on the top ten best beaches list!  Simply amazing places to visit that will add a little bit of something different.

Don’t limit or potentially ruin your honeymoon options by not reaching out and getting advice!

A friend of mine left her husband to plan their honeymoon.  He did a great job of finding the perfect hotel in the Bahamas but just hadn’t factored in it was hurricane season!  10 days before they flew out Hurricane Floyd hit the Island and flights were cancelled – in and off the Island.  They did get there but the Island had been hit badly and the paradise they were expecting wasn’t what they arrived to. It’s important to know where you’re going, about the climate and the culture.

Something different!

If you’re not a beach person and the thought of lying around all day doesn’t quite cut it with you, then there are some amazing things you can do. Don’t assume that ‘different’ means it will be too expensive.  There are so many things to do from bathing elephants at the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park in Phuket, feeding the giraffes at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, an Underwater Hotel in Sweden maybe?  Or how about a road trip in a motorhome across Canada?

Some tips for you! The Dos and Don’ts of honeymoons.

– Don’t go for the ‘lowest price’ deal.  Arrange a budget and get the very best you can.

– Don’t plan your honeymoon by yourself.  Get advice and do your homework.

– Don’t leave booking until ‘nearer the time’.  There are some great payment options available for booking in advance.

– Do put together a list of places you’d like to visit. Be specific about what you want.

– Do put a budget in place. It will help you to scope out options.

– Do try to balance adventure with relaxation. Two destination honeymoons can be the perfect compromise and give you the best memories.
