Saddleworth Golf Club has a New Lady Captain Sheila Cooper
SADDLEWORTH Golf Club has a new Lady Captain Sheila Cooper.
Sheila has been a playing member for eight years and after missing three years of golf during that time due to a broken ankle and after that experience she does not want to lose part of what promises to be a great year ahead for the club.
Sheila said: “My golfing highlight came on my return from injury in 2012 when winning the Chronicle Cup and the Millgate Trophy with Roy Downing.
“My current handicap is 24, best was 21, and I will be looking to play three times a week as well as enjoying my other hobbies music-making (with cello, piano and organ) and gardening.
“My favourite hole at Saddleworth Golf Club is the 11th– a blind drive and as you walk over the crest of the hill you get wonderful views of Dovestone Reservoir and on a summer’s evening with the sun on the heater and moors it is quite magical and my other favourite course is Elie in Fyfe.
Sheila’s chosen charity is Cancer Research UK.
“My three players to join me in a four-ball would be Catriona Matthew- such an inspirational player and captain, Miguel Angel Jimenez – because he just enjoys his golf (shame about the cigar!) and Rory McIlroy – a great player, great sense of humour and a very good sport.
“Saddleworth Golf Club boasts some of the finest moorland views in England and in 2020 it has everything going for it. Excellent green staff, a wonderful pro-Andy Earlam, fantastic admin from Tracey Travis, tasty catering with Fest Events and two really keen Captains- Steve Asquith and myself.
“The COVID 19 virus crisis is a tragedy for everyone but please come to Saddleworth once this is all behind us!”
