Noah’s A.R.T – Pet Connect Dukinfield
Noah’s A.R.T Animals Rescue Therapy, Dukinfield.
Noah’s A.R.T is an animal assisted therapy service founded by a qualified mental health nurse, Sharon Hall, with 13 years of experience under her belt. The service has been running since 2014 and has expanded significantly in that time. Beginning with outreach sessions to mental health wards and care homes, Noah’s A.R.T now has a base at The Together Centre, Loxley House in Dukinfield. From our base we offer a community café on a Tuesday ‘The Pop Inn’, and two days of therapy which clients book onto.
Animal assisted therapy utilises the human animal bond to provide a non-judgemental and safe space for vulnerable individuals in our community to find place and purpose. From walking a dog to socialising a rescued baby rat, animals provide a non-verbal, natural and joyful bridge between client and therapist.
Pet Connect is the latest project from Noah’s A.R.T which seeks to help socially isolated individuals in Tameside and is funded by Action Together. The project involves volunteer ‘Pet Buddy Teams’ visiting participants in their homes and providing an animal assisted befriending service. ‘Pet Buddy Teams’ consist of a human volunteer and their friendly dog partner who are trained to provide a professional befriending service.
The Pet Connect team are currently looking for friendly and caring individuals who can spare even as little as an hour a week to volunteer as a ‘Pet Buddy Team’. Volunteers would need to be able to visit participants in Tameside regularly, although travel expenses can be refunded. They would also need a friendly dog partner to accompany them on their visits. We are also looking for individuals who would benefit from a visit from a ‘Pet Buddy Team’.
Meet the team.
